An estate administrator is the person dealing with the estate of a deceased person. S/he can either be appointed by a will or appointed by the courts. Below are the common mistake an administrator should avoid:
1 Failing to make an accurate account of the deceased assets and liability – this may lead to wastage of the deceased’s assets or render them incapable of distribution
2. Omitting property belonging to the deceased – Omitting property may later require rectification, thus causing delays in administration.
3. Including property that does not belong to the deceased – Including assets belonging to other people may lead to objection by the rightful owner thus causing delays.
4. Failure to identify all the beneficiaries of the estate – This may increase the possibility of litigation by omitted beneficiaries.
5. Dealing with the property of the deceased before confirmation of the grant – In addition to being an offense, this could also lead to wastage or distribution to the wrong person.
